Welcome Fellow Travelers

So you may have just seen our new commercial about Journey United Church of Christ and found your way to our website. You might be asking yourself, does this kind of church really exist? If you are looking for a church that doesn't focus on doctrine and dogma, but on real people and relationships, you'll find yourself at home at Journey Church!

Because each of us are on our own journey with God there will never be absolute answers to our questions. We don't make God into our own image, God makes us into God's image. Yet God is so expansive that even 6 billion people on the earth can not even begin to collectively reflect the essence of God. Like our commercial says; No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey...you are welcome at Journey Church!

Each of us have our own individual journey to recognize God as our Creator, and establish relationship with this Infinite Being. The fact is, because God is infinite, God can never be fully known. I believe that is the mistake of so many churches these days...trying to define God for everyone else. You just end up putting God in a box and limit God's extravagant grace and love for all humanity.

So how can we possibly be a church with so many different journeys enroute to the same God? That is the wonder and complexity of our journey together. Even though this corporate journey will never meet the spiritual needs of everyone, we believe that it is an awesome opportunity to begin together.

Where will this journey take us? When we keep our hearts open to God's call to be an open and affirming community of faith, we'll find that the journey itself will reveal God to us in amazing ways. It's not a popular message these days. It's not a popular Gospel. But neither was Jesus' message. Understanding that message won't always be simple or concrete, but I guarantee that it will be transforming. After all, isn't that what our journey is all about?

Our journey together will be an exciting time full of discovery and transformation. Stay tuned for exciting news about our journey as a progressive and liberal church!

Blessings on your journey!
Pastor Brice Thomas
